The subordinate clause The subordinate clause is not a complete sentence and therefore cannot stand on its own. The subordinate clause is often called the dependent clause because it relies on the main clause to make sense as a statement.

The subordinate clause This type of sentence is most useful when you want to include ideas that are more important than others, and if you wish to be more precise with your sentences. It functions like a noun, adverb or adjective.
