Act Four Scene One  The three witches are creating a potion and spell around a cauldron  “Double Double toil and trouble—witches say this as they work to create an evil spell  Hecate enters and praises the witches for creating the spell  Macbeth enters—asks them what his future holds  FIRST APPARITION (like a ghost) ARMED HEAD (knight’s helmet): BEWARE MACDUFF  SECOND APPARITION A bloody child: NONE OF WOMAN BORN SHALL HARM MACBETH

THIRD APPARITION  CHILD CROWNED HOLDING A TREE BRANCH: MACBETH shall never vanquish’d be until Great Birnam Wood to high Dunsinane Hill Shall come against him (he won’t be conquered until the forest moves up the hill)  Macbeth asks if Banquo’s children will be kings 8 kings appear with Banquo’s ghost following The last king has a glass in his hand  Witches dance and vanish—Lennox enters and tells Macbeth that Macduff has fled to England.  Macbeth is going to murder everyone in in Macduff’s castle.
