European Day of Languages: 26 th September 2015 To celebrate languages and language learning Camembear's friend Hans would like to introduce you to some colours in German! Once you have learnt the colours, you can call out the colour of the snail you are supporting in the race.

The winning cycle was 'weiß'! Replay Race Again! Call out your colour in German!

Preparation: Note: This resource has embedded ‘macros’ which must be ‘enabled’ when prompted. You will need to create coloured cards for as many pupils as you have in your class. Slide 4 has 8 coloured cards. Print this slide out so that each pupil can have at least one card. Cut up the cards and collect them as a pack ready for the activity. Running the Activity: From slide 1, click on ‘Start’. This will take you to a slide that shows the children how to say the German words for each of the colours. Try the words as often as you need for them to learn the names. Test their knowledge by clicking on the individual colours – this will both show and say the German word for each colour Next page

Running the Activity: Having checked that the pupils have remembered how to say the 8 colours tell them that they are about to watch a snail race. They are about to support one of the snails (which are colour coded) and should shout out the colour of their snail. Randomly hand out the cards that you have cut up so that each pupil has one card. This card tells them the colour of snail that they should support. When everyone is ready click on the ‘Let’s Race’ button. The race will start immediately and will last approximately 10 seconds. The pupils should be encouraged to shout out the colour (in German!) of the snail they are supporting. After the first race, take in the cards from the pupils, shuffle them and randomly hand out the cards again. Run another race by clicking on the ‘Race Again’ button. Repeat this activity as many times as you wish.
