Sault Health Adolescent Care Center Concussion Management Program

October 14, 2011 Scott, 15 year old hockey player, bumped his head on the starter block in the pool.

E.R. cleared him to play October 18, 2011 He took a “dirty hit” playing hockey.

E.R. cleared him to play October 19, 2011 Scott went to the ER with  Headache  Feeling “Slow”  Moodiness  Balance Problems

October 31, 2011 Presented to the SHACC with continued symptoms for concussion assessment

October 31, 2011 Scott had no baseline concussion management score. Original scores were “invalid”

SHACC Nurse Practitioner ordered: total physical & cognitive rest 1 week off of school, then half days

Scott continued to have debilitating headaches.

He missed the entire hockey season.

Symptoms resolved in 2012 after 3-4 neurology consultations Treatment with bedtime and Reduced school schedule the remainder of the 1 st semester
