PROBLEM STATEMENT How to increase Female Teen’s participation in strength exercise by using resistance bands?

Teenage girls will be introduced to strength training through the regular use of bands. PURPOSE

USDHHS recommends muscular strength and endurance training as part of an overall program BACKGROUND AND SIGNIFICANCE

A Solution: TEEN FEMALES Improve Body Image Through Strength Exercise

Maintain healthy body weight - 30% teased about weight - Negative self-esteem, depression, suicide, thoughts - Obese teens - heavy smokers - Females overweight at 18, increase risk of death in middle age WHY STRENGTH TRAIN?

Bone Density Increased risk of fractures 80% of females calcium deficient Resistance training can increase bone mass Improve cardiovascular risk profile Improve psychological well being WHY STRENGTH TRAIN?

In studies with young adults shown to be equivalent to traditional weight training Inexpensive Portable Greater range of motion WHY RESISTANCE BANDS?
