The Department of Labor provided $500,000 of funding that enables training of approximately 80 Veterans. Provides PowerPathway outreach and job-readiness training for recently separated veterans. Outreach and assessment began in Training started in January 2009 and will end in August Grant Information
3 cohorts of approximately 25 students each. 1 cohort at Fresno City College, 2 cohorts at San Francisco City College. Candidates were selected based on Military and Work Experience, Work Keys Scores, Interviews, Drug Testing and Background Checks 4 Project Summary
PG&E Technical Skills – taught by retirees. Math and Spatial Exercises to prep for pre-employment testing. Reading (Industry related materials and test prep exercises) Physical Training Soft Skills (Resume, Interview, Communication skills) 5 Curriculum (240 hours)
52 graduates of first 2 cohorts. 17 currently participating in 3 cohort. 42 out of 45 graduates have passed pre-employment test. 6 graduates hired to date at PG&E – 5 Utility Workers – 1 Nuclear Plant Security Guard 10 grads hired by PG&E contractors 2 hired by others 6 Results to Date
Veteran assistance opportunities needed (support groups for counseling, expense and meal reimbursement, job search support) Military Occupational Codes (MOC’s or MOS’s) need to be understood better to align with non-military jobs. Need to structure training to enable qualification of GI Bill. Need Employment Consortium Lessons Learned 7
