ADHD is a common chronic disorder in children [ with 30 to 50% of those individuals diagnosed in childhood continuing to have symptoms into adulthood Adolescents and adults with ADHD tend to develop coping mechanisms to compensate for some or all of their impairments

symptoms Be easily distracted, miss details, forget things, and frequently switch from one activity to another Have difficulty focusing on one thing Become bored with a task after only a few minutes, unless they are doing something enjoyable Have difficulty focusing attention on organizing and completing a task or learning something new Have trouble completing or turning in homework assignments, often losing Not seem to listen when spoken to Have difficulty processing information as quickly and accurately as others

treatment An important non-medical approach used in treating children with ADHD is known as behavior therapy or behavior management. Behavior therapy is based on several simple and sensible notions about what leads children to behave in socially appropriate ways. One reason is that children generally want to please their parents and feel good about themselves when their parent is proud of them.

Statistics 4.5 million children 5-17 years of age have ever been diagnosed with ADHD as of Diagnosis of ADHD increased an average of 3% per year from 1997 to Boys (9.5%) are more likely than girls (5.9%) to have been diagnosed with ADHD.
