What is happening in Kindergarten Writers Workshop? In our writing unit on Small Moments students are being taught to tell and write detailed, focused stories. With a writing partner students are planning stories and helping each other fill in the details that make a story more interesting for the reader. The following few slides show how the class is jointly writing Small Moments as they happen to us.

Beginning It was Halloween. Middle We had a party. End We trick or treated and went home. This is how our Small Moment about Halloween began. Partners shared details and the class writing became…

It was Halloween. Ms Soranson gave us some Halloween special pens. We wrote small moments about Halloween.

We had a party in our class. We wore costumes and played games. We played pin the nose on the witch and which witch is which. We made hands full of popcorn. We sang songs with all of the Kindergarten classes.

Before we went home we went trick or treating around the classroom. Avery’s mom was a cat. We got lots of candy in our bags. We were happy. Just before the party was over Tyler won the jack-o-lantern that our class carved. It was a good day!
