Good News to Hear Good News to Hear Back ground passages: Back ground passages: Romans 1:18-3:26 Romans 1:18-3:26 Lesson passage Romans 2:1- 11;3:21-26 Lesson passage Romans 2:1- 11;3:21-26

Why some need to hear: Romans 1:18-32 Sin was blatantly evident in perverted and corrupt ways of behavior. Why the rest need to hear: Romans 2:1-3:20 Paul not only confronted the gentiles with their pagan life styles, but he also confronted the Self Righteous Jews about their way of worship. What we need to hear: Romans 3:21-26 Man may look doomed but he is not because of Jesus death at Calvary.

Romans 2:1-5 God’s Judgment of Sin 1You may think you can condemn such people, but you are just as bad, and you have no excuse! When you say they are wicked and should be punished, you are condemning yourself, for you who judge others do these very same things. Romans 2:1-5 God’s Judgment of Sin 1You may think you can condemn such people, but you are just as bad, and you have no excuse! When you say they are wicked and should be punished, you are condemning yourself, for you who judge others do these very same things. 1

Rom 2 Verse 1. Paul was amazed that after telling his readers of such sinful acts that man was involved and making it clear that we are all wicked without Christ, that some still had the nerve to believe that they were better and that they should be the judge of others.

What happens when you Judges others?

You Condemn Yourself !

Romans 2:2 And we know that God, in his justice, will punish anyone who does such things. 3 Since you judge others for doing these things, why do you think you can avoid God’s judgment when you do the same things?

Verse 2 Paul makes it clear that the judgment of God is not one sided or done when a self centered motive. Jew or Gentile sin is sin and will be judge based on truth.

Verse 3 Just because we go to church and are children of God, don’t think that a sinful practicing person can escape the judgment of God. The Jews felt that by being God’s chosen that they would get by and could judge others. Remember King David.

44 Don’t you see how wonderfully kind, tolerant, and patient God is with you? Does this mean nothing to you? Can’t you see that his kindness is intended to turn you from your sin? 4

God had not judged these listeners and by the delay of judgment they felt that God was blessing them instead of going to judge them.

Look at Question 2 on page 21 of your guide. What was God trying to do?

Verse 4 He was trying to lead them to an on going repentance.

55But because you are stubborn and refuse to turn from your sin, you are storing up terrible punishment for yourself. For a day of anger is coming, when God’s righteous judgment will be revealed. 5

Paul is not only making it clear that sinful acts will be judged, but also there will be a day when the sinner must be able to say the right thing when God ask why should I let you enter into the Kingdom of God?

What are we sowing today? Are we sowing acts of self righteousness by judging others or are we sowing the truth in the word of God so that nonbelievers can hear the truth and be set free from their sinful way of living? What are we sowing today? Are we sowing acts of self righteousness by judging others or are we sowing the truth in the word of God so that nonbelievers can hear the truth and be set free from their sinful way of living?

God is patient even in our prideful state of being. He is long suffering so we should be grateful that God is patient even when our sinful action screams for God’s judgment.
