What does the law say? Health Safety at Work etc Act 1974Health Safety at Work etc Act 1974 You must work safely You must not endanger others You must not misuse safety equipment Penalty – up to 2 year in prison &/or an unlimited fine

School Safety Committee oversees and implements H&S policies within the school on behalf of the School Management Committee (SMC). School Safety officer acts on behalf of the SMC in all H&S matters Floor leaders are responsible for the day to day H&S within the school. H&S within the Medical School

What are the general hazards in a laboratory? Fire Breakage of glassware Sharps Spillages Pressure equipment & gas cylinders Extremes of heat & cold Chemical hazards Biological hazards Radiation And many more!And many more!

Knowledge The person showing you a technique should inform you of all the Hazards & Risks associated with the procedure and YOU should obtain & READ copies of the relevant COSHH and Risk assessment forms before you carryout procedures on your own.

Do not carry out a new or unfamiliar procedure until you have been fully trained & understand the precautions necessary for safe working DO NOT GUESS!!!!DO NOT GUESS!!!! When in doubt – ASK!!!
