LIFE SUPPORT SYSTEMS FLEET SUPPORT TEAM LCDR Matt “RATBOY” Hebert, Team Leader

WHO IS THE LSS FST? Life Support Systems, Fleet Support Team (LSS FST) (known commonly as “ALSS In-Service”) supports most “man-mounted” ALSS (Helmets, Personal Protective clothing, Survival vests, Seat Kits, Rescue and Survival Gear, etc., etc., etc.) from four National locations. Think of us as the service department of the dealership where you purchased your new car…we fix the broken stuff…BUT we also liaison with R&D to ensure new products are delivered as quality products! The LSS Fleet Support Team constitutes the largest team within Crew Systems (70 individuals-4 sites (w/contractors)). LSS FST is tasked with assigning IMP/BDE tasking and funding to these individuals in order to manage the program. LSS FST members include: Engineers (Electrical, Mechanical and Aerospace), Logisticians, Physical Scientists and Technicians (mostly retired Senior PR's and AME's) from numerous field activities (China Lake, Indy, Lakehurst, and Patuxent River). The LSS FST executes an annual budget of approximately $6.5 million.

The LSS FST responsibilities primarily include basic design engineering (BDE) and logistics support for just over 900 ALSS items. The LSS FST also manages over 75 fleet assigned projects through the In-service Management Panel (IMP) process annually. The LSS FST also manages sixteen NAVAIR “13 Series” manuals and the QH-2 (a supplemental NAVSUP pub) (17 Total Pubs). We publish these manuals to the Fleet at least bi-annually on CD-ROM, and they are made available through the PMA-202 website. LSS FST TASKING
