Introduction UNIFORMED GROUPS BOWLING CHAMPIONSHIPS

Introduction  Hwa Chong Institution NPCC Unit has been organising the Inter-school Bowling Competitions for all NPCC units since 1999  Competition was extended to members from all nine Uniformed Groups in 2004  Last year, the competition is extended to all Officers and Youth Volunteer Leaders  This year, there is an introduction of the Individual Category for Individual Bowlers

IMPORTANT REMINDERS

Important Reminders  DO be ready when it's your turn to bowl. Remain in your lane area while your teammates are bowling  DO bowl immediately when it is your turn  DO wait until you have completed the frame before checking your score  DO return your bowling shoes/house ball (if applicable)

Important Reminders  DON’T wander off  DON'T bring food or drink into the settee or bowlers area  DON'T bench jockey while others are bowling  DON'T linger at the foul line after releasing the ball

SCORING

Scoring  For each pin knocked over – 1 point  Eg. 3 pins with 1 st shot and 6 pins with 2 nd shot – 9 points  In the event that all ten pins are knocked over by a player in a single frame, bonuses are awarded

Scoring - Strike  Happens when all 10 pins are down with 1 st ball of the frame  Awarded 10 points AND  A bonus of whatever is scored with the next two balls

Scoring - Spare  Happens when all 10 pins are knocked down with the 2 nd ball of a frame  Awarded 10 points AND  A bonus of whatever is scored with the next ball

Getting to Bukit Batok CSC  Nearest MRT Station to Bukit Batok CSC: Bukit Batok MRT Station  Bus Stop A (Bukit Batok West Avenue 2): 187, 188, 947, 985, 985W  Bus Stop B (Bukit Batok Central): 66, 157, 174, 173, 174E, 176, 178, 187, 941, 947, 985, 506  You can alight and walk towards the CSC once it is in view. The bus stop should be just beside the CSC.

Getting to Westwood Bowl  Marshals and helpers will be present to guide you to the bowling alley  They will be dressed in the black UGBC official Tee- Shirt or the HCINPCC Unit Tee-Shirt for ease of recognition  Signs will be placed within the premises of the club  The club’s information counter is also available if you have any queries

THE PRELIMS

The Prelims Preliminary Round Date: 01 June 2012 (Friday) Time: 1000h to 1600h – Registration starts at – 0915h (Session 1) – 1045h (Session 2) – 1345h (Session 3) Venue: Westwood Bukit Batok CSC Attire: School UG T-shirt & track pants

The Prelims There will be three sessions during the prelims – You will be informed via the members of the OT – Registration Time – Roll-Off Time – Stickers will be given to you based on the session you are in on the actual day – Please remember to stick these stickers at your right chest once you get them

On the Day of the Prelims  Check the names of your team and the team members against the registration list  Pay the registration fee of S$24.00 (team) or S$8.00 (individual), and collect your receipt (If you are unable to do so today)  Confirm the session and lane for your team  Ensure that you are given the stickers  Proceed to prepare for the bowling competition  Bowlers must be the same for the finals (if they qualify)

After the Prelims  Results of the prelims will be released two working days after the Prelims (ugbc.hcinpcc.sg) or our Facebook page  Team Captains of finalists will be called up by the OT

THE FINALS

The Finals  Date: 08 June 2012 (Friday)  Time: 1000h to 1300h  Registration starts at 0915h  Venue: Westwood Bukit Batok CSC  Attire: School UG T-shirt & track pants

After the Finals  Finalists to gather at the reception area for the prize presentation ceremony  Results will be announced and trophies given out  There will be refreshments for the finalists  Results of the finals will be posted on the UGBC website two working days after the finals  ugbc.hcinpcc.sg 

FAQ 1. If on the Prelims, the list is different from the official registration form, is it okay? This will only be allowed for the Prelims. Once a bowler has played in the Prelims, there will be no further change in the Finals 2. If I’m not in my school tee-shirt, is it okay to wear home clothes to bowl? No, you will not be allowed to bowl unless in proper attire 3. Must I show any identification? Yes, you will be asked to produce i/c or student pass

FAQ 4. I’m in the Session 1 at 0915h, but my team is unable to make it. Is it possible to change the time? Yes, but this will be allowed only in case-by-case basis 5. Will transport be provided? No, participants will have to travel to the venue by themselves
