WHAT IS ABSTRACT ART?

Terms Non Objective the painting does not contain a recognizable subject. Abstract Expressionist has two categories action painting and Colour Field. What to ask yourself when looking at an abstract piece of art? Does it hold your attention? Does it give an emotional response? Am I trying to figure out what it looks like or represent, rather than allowing something to emerge from what I see in front of me? What are the elements that I see? What are the emotions that are bring expressed? Have I allowed enough time?
