1.What secret activities were taking place the three months after Major’s death?  They organised for the Rebellion.  Animalism was created

2. Who took control of the revolution and why?  The Pigs  They were the cleverest.

3. Write down the characteristics of Snowball, Napoleon and Squealer.  Napoleon: He had the reputation of getting his own way.  Snowball: was high-spirited, quick in speech and inventive.  Squealer: A brilliant talker who could argue difficult points. He could argue that black is actually white.

4. What is Animalism?  The teachings of Major developed into a complete system of thought.

5. What obstacles did the leaders face when they tried to convince the animals on the farm to believe in Animalism?  Stupidity  Apathy  Animals felt they had a duty to Jones and stayed loyal  Animals wondered if they had to fight if they were going to die before the revolution.  The pigs had to counteract stories about Sugar Candy Mountain.

6. How did Clover and Boxer react to the new doctrine?  Once they accepted the pigs as their teachers, they absorbed everything they were told, and passed it on to the other animals by simple arguments.

7. What was the condition of the farm shortly before the Rebellion?  The fields were full of weeds.  The buildings wanted roofing.  The hedges were neglected.  Animals were underfed.  The cows were not milked.

8. How do you know the Rebellion was successful?  Jones was expelled. Manor Farm belonged to the animals.

9. What did the animals destroy first? They destroyed everything in the harness-room:  Bits  Nose-rings  Dog chains  Cruel knives  Reins  Halters  Blinkers  Nosebags  whips

10. What were they going to do with the house?  The farmhouse was preserved as a museum.

11. The pigs taught themselves to write. Do you consider it a vice or not? Give a reason for your answer. Consider what Major said.  Yes. Writing is a human characteristic. Major told them not to resemble man in any way.

12. What do the seven commandments remind you of?  The ten commandments.

13. What happened with the five buckets of milk?  It disappeared. The pigs probably had it.

14. Do you consider the cows to be at a disadvantage, compared with the other animals?  Yes. They are dependant on other animals to milk them.
