Using Google Drive

Accessing Google Drive Go to drive.google.com or click Drive in the black bar when you are signed in to any Google page There are also apps for Android and iOS

Accessing Google Drive When using Google Drive for schoolwork, be sure to use your Nuview Google Account (ending in nuview.k12.ca.us) This gives extra options for sharing and collaborating with other students and teachers

Google Drive Apps Five main apps 1.Document 2.Presentation 3.Spreadsheet 4.Form 5.Drawing One hidden app keep.google.com, a note taking app

Google Drive Apps Clicking ‘Connect more apps’ will take you to a list of many 3rd- party apps, including image, video, and music editing, and much more. Many are free, but some are not

Google Drive Apps ●Document is similar to Microsoft Word ●Presentation is similar to Microsoft PowerPoint ●Spreadsheet is similar to Microsoft Excel ●Form allows you to create surveys ●Drawing has basic image creation

Uploading Files Google Drive will store ANY file you give it (similar to Dropbox) Just click the Upload button and point to any file or folder on your computer

Uploading Files If you upload a Microsoft Office file, Google gives you the option to convert it to a Google Docs format so that you can edit it from your web browser. Sometimes this introduces formatting issues, but text and data are always accurate

Downloading Files You can save a copy of any file you have in Google Drive. With your document open, click ‘File’ then ‘Download as’ to see all your options

Downloading Files Choose PDF or Web Page if you are finished editing your document and want to preserve all your formatting. The other file types are useful if you need to keep editing a document, but are unsure if you will have an internet connection

Downloading Files Always test your downloaded file BEFORE you need it printed, presented, etc. to make sure that everything turned out how you expected it to

Collaboration Google Drive has two killer features: 1.All your files are available anywhere there is an internet connection 2.Multiple people can work on the same document at the same time

Collaboration Use the ‘Share’ button in the upper-right to begin collaborating on a document

Collaboration This menu is displayed when you click Share

Collaboration If you are signed in to your Nuview account, just start typing anybody’s name in the box and their address will come up

Collaboration ‘Can edit’ gives full access to the document ‘Can comment’ allows margin comments ‘Can view’ is read-only

Collaboration You can also allow greater access to your document by clicking ‘Change…’ under ‘Who has access’

Collaboration Google Drive keeps backups of your work. If something is accidentally deleted, click ‘File’ then ‘See revision history’ to restore it

Collaboration Coaches can also look at the revision history to make sure that all group members have been contributing to the document

Comments Commenting is a useful way to communicate about a document without making any changes to the document itself. Right-click to leave a comment

Comments Comments will appear off to the side, and the text related to the comment will be highlighted

Comments People can reply to your comments to discuss the issue further
