Contents The “V Sign” The “Corna” “The Finger” The “A-OK” The “Dog Call” The “Thumbs-Up” 2016/6/3 2 The Interpretation for Body Language PEGGY HOU

The “V Sign” I think it’s the meaning of “Victory”, no matter the man shows outside of his hand to people or not. In America it really doesn’t matter which side of your palm was shown, they all mean “Victory”. But in UK, Australia, Ireland, and New Zealand, it means a long-established insult. In Italy, it resemble a crude vagina if you put your nose between your fingers. 2016/6/3 3 The Interpretation for Body Language PEGGY HOU

The “Corna” I think this is popular used when we are showing “high emotion” in the Rock’n’Roll performance. Actually, this gesture have a lot of meaning: implying the presence of Satan, malevolence and loud guitar music. Nowadays, Americans use the gesture simply to mean “rock on”. The “Corna” is used to dispel evil for Buddhism and Hinduism. In Spain, Portugal, Greece, Colombia, Brazil, Albania, Slovakia and the Czech Republic, it means “cuckold” (it means “your wife is cheating on you”) 2016/6/3 4 The Interpretation for Body Language PEGGY HOU

“The Finger” I think it was used when there is somebody is despising others, or someone really feel angry. It is a obscene gesture. This gesture seems very popular in western world. Recently, we could also found it using in Asian world. The gesture has a specific meaning that shows relating sexual organs and it’s know as the ‘flip-off’, the ‘bird’, the ‘highway salute’ and so on. It’s really a obscene gesture that no matter whom saw it, they’ll get angry or think of the person is rude. 2016/6/3 5 The Interpretation for Body Language PEGGY HOU

The “A-OK” I think it means “I understand it”, “I’m fine”, “no problem”, such kind of positive meaning. In Japan, this means “money”. It’s common use for scuba divers that means “absolutly ok”, and is to prvent ambiguity with the thumbs-up sign, which means “ascend”. In Europe, numerical Interpretation gave it a Insulting overtone that means “you think they are a zero” In Brazil, Gemany and some miditerranean countries, it means “anus” or “asshole”. 2016/6/3 6 The Interpretation for Body Language PEGGY HOU

The “Dog Call” I think this is a gesture that use to provoke others. Sometimes it might be a childish gesture summoning someone come to you. This gesture is generally linked with the temptresses in the Hollywood movie for their targeted man to follow them into another place. For Philippines, this gesture only worthy to use on dogs. They will arrest people who committed the crime. Some say they would also break the index finger in order to prevent you did the same crime. 2016/6/3 7 The Interpretation for Body Language PEGGY HOU

The “Thumbs-Up” I think it have the meanings like “great”, “well-done”, and so on. It also means “go up” in some situation. After all, this is a positive gesture. Thumbs-up and thumbs-down used to vote on the life of the death of a defeated gladiator. Most of the western world use it as a positive gesture, like “well-done” or “good to go” (for the WWII pilots). For Russia, Latin America, West Africa, Greece, Sardinia and the south of Italy, this gesture has the same meaning with middle finger. In Middle East, it’s even worse for you to use both of your hands. 2016/6/3 8 The Interpretation for Body Language PEGGY HOU
