By: Bennett and Topher Hernan Cortes was born 1485 in Medellin, Spain. His father was a captain in the Spanish army. Cortes went to college at the University of Salamanca. He eventually married Catalina Suarez Marcaida. Cortes’s full name is Hernan Cortes de Monroy y Pizarro. He Died on December 2, 1547 and his wife died in 1522.

 Hernan Cortes was born 1485 in Medellin, Spain. His father was a captain in the Spanish army. Cortes went to college at the University of Salamanca. He eventually married Catalina Suarez Marcaida. Cortes’s full name is Hernan Cortes de Monroy y Pizarro. He Died on December 2, 1547 and his wife died in 1522.

 He used his own money to pay for his journey. The cost included paying for his soldiers and sailors.

 Cortes got permission from the governor of Cuba to go to Mexico and find gold and claim territories for Spain.

 In February 1519, Cortes sailed from Cuba with 11 ships and about 600 men.
