Senior Portfolio Requirements for Graduation

Portfolio Components The portfolio is a 3 ring binder divided into 5 tabbed sections using the following headings Section 1: Best Works and Scholarly Paper Section 2: Transcripts, Credit Check, and Semester Progress Reports Section 3: SMART Goal Setting Section 4: Student Led Conferences and Oral Presentation Section 5: Career Cruising and High School & Beyond Plan

#1: Best Works In this first section all students are required to collect and reflect upon 3 examples of work that fit the “Best Works” criteria. Criteria for student work, which could be considered Best Works: 1 mandatory; Persuasive or Expository Essay And a choice of any 2 of the following; Exams, quizzes, and or tests Labs, projects, and or presentations Performances and or exhibitions

Scholarly Paper The final piece of this first section is the completion of a research paper. Criteria for the Research Paper: Can be completed during either the 11 th or 12 th grade. Research for paper can be on any school appropriate topic. Must follow MLA formatting as prescribed in MLA writing handbook. Must have a minimum of 5 references, 2 of which can be internet based. 5 page minimum for body/text of paper. Title page, reference and appendix are not included in the 5 page count. Student can choose to expand any paper previously written during the 11 th and or 12 th grade to meet these requirements.

#2: Transcripts, Credit Checks & Progress Reports The second section requires students to collect, maintain and show adequate yearly progress towards meeting graduating requirements. Criteria for demonstrating adequate yearly progress: A current Washington State High School transcript (unofficial is acceptable). Current completed credit check and semester progress report.

#3: Goal Setting In the third section the student will follow the “SMART” goal setting handout and complete the goal setting form for their current semester. Criteria for Goal Setting: Complete a current goal setting form using “SMART” goals handout.

#4: Student Led Conferences & Oral Presentation of Portfolio The fourth section requires students to complete an oral presentation of their culminating project/ portfolio using the SLC script. Criteria for SLC’s and the Oral Presentation: Completed culminating project/portfolio that has been audited and signed off on by the students counselor and advisor or administrator. Complete an oral presentation of culminating project/ portfolio to a caring adult and your advisor using the SLC script (Spring SLC’s). Parent, student and or advisor self-evaluation of oral presentation using SLC presentation rubric provided in culminating project booklet.

#5: Career Cruising The final section of the project requires the student to complete a minimum of 90% of the career cruising program and write an essay on their plans for life after high school. Criteria for Career Cruising: Complete, save, and print 90% - 100% of your work using the career cruising software program.

High School and Beyond Plan For this last section the student completes a 5 paragraph paper titled “My High School and Beyond Plans” using the suggested format below. Criteria for the High School & Beyond Plan: No outside resources other than career cruising and transcripts may be used to write paper. Minimum of 5 paragraphs (introduction, 3 body/ text paragraphs, and a conclusion). Gather and use the suggested information below as a guide for constructing your paper. 1.Your career pathway from career cruising. 2.Type of post-secondary training/ education required for this career. 3.Steps you have taken in high school to prepare yourself for this career (transcripts). 4.A financial plan to pay for training and post-secondary education. 5.Your back-up plan in case things change.
