AP Language & Composition Is a class that explores Rhetoric. Rhetoric is defined as “any and all means used in the art of persuasion.”
What you will learn: To develop an argument. To analyze others’ arguments. To synthesize (bring together)information to support an argument. To write more effectively. To read more closely.
Citizenship In many ways, this class will develop each of you to be a more productive citizen in a democratic society. You will be more informed and have a broader and deeper world-view after taking this course.
Overview of assignments: Vocabulary test every other week. OP Ed article analysis every other week. In-class writing assignments Multiple Choice practice Reading of one non-fiction book per quarter, followed by an in-class write.

The Exam The AP Lang & Comp exam is on Wednesday, May 11 th, 8:00 am. More info will be given to you in the spring. The cost will be $92.00 and there are scholarships for students in need. See Ms. Wiskerschen.
The AP Exam on May 11th The exam consists of two sections: 1. Multiple Choice – 55 multiple choice questions that focus on interpreting and analyzing rhetorical devices within a text (45% of final score) (1 hour) 2. Free Response - 3 essays; compose an argument, write a rhetorical analysis, and synthesize a variety of sources (55% of final score). Late Work For any missing assignments you may be referred to the English learning lab. At the end of the unit the zero will be permanent. The Learning Lab is in my room on Mondays and Wednesdays after school. Absent work: you have as many days missed to make up the work, otherwise will be considered as late. Late work will be reflected in your employability grade. Late Summative Assignments: 10% will be deducted per school day.

JOB SHADOW Begin planning your job shadow now. This will be an assignment in this class to be completed before the end of the first semester. You MAY use your job shadow as one of your sources on your Jr. Research Paper, but it is NOT required. The job shadow will be a requirement for your Junior Year Culminating Project and also an end of the year project for me.
