Budget Sunday Liberality in Giving

A Summary Of This Year’s Budget Advertising -- $5,814 About half of last year’s total Decreasing newspaper ad to every other week rather than weekly Also includes yellow pages ad and phone directory listings

Audio Visual -- $750 Down from last year’s $1,000 Provides for web page Provides for sound system needs Provides for projector needs

Automobile Expenses -- $2,800 Down from $24,000 last year Last year included option for purchase of a new van, which was not possible. Provides for upkeep on present church van

Benevolence -- $5,000 Down from last year’s $6,000 Limited to members in good standing Expected to be paid back as soon as possible to be able to help others in need.

Building and Grounds -- $5,000 Down from last year’s $8,909 Provides for upkeep on the build of a routine nature. Includes cleaning supplies and such things for maintenance of the building.

Capital Maintenance -- $20,000 Down from last year’s $24,000 Provides funding for unexpected contingencies, such as air condition repairs or replacements.

Education -- $6,000 Provides curriculum for Bible classes. Bank Loan -- $11,500 Payments for existing loan from past work done on the building and parking lot. Gifts -- $350 Provides memorials for funerals

Insurance -- $22,100 Down slightly from last year’s $22,437 Includes insurance on building, parsonage, van and health insurance for preacher.

Missions -- $15,600 Same as last year Provides partial support for: Charlie Sabado in the Philippines Tim Burow at Sunset International Bible Institute

Office Supplies -- $9,500 Provides for paper, copy machine lease, telephone system lease, postage, etc.

Outreach -- $5,000 Same as last year Provides for guest speakers or other outreach- based ministries Pantry -- $250 Down from last year’s $2,400 Pantry will now primarily be stocked from special contribution every first Sunday of each month.

Parsonage -- $1,500 Provides maintenance and updating on church parsonage. Same as last year. Payroll -- $79,290 Slight increase from last year’s $79,190. Payroll for three church employees. Preaching School -- $250 Provides miscellaneous needs for Thursday night preaching school.

Repairs -- $1,800 Down from last year’s $3,250 Provides for minor repairs to building Taxes -- $2,500 New line item Federal taxes on payroll Utilities -- $25,500 Down from last year’s $28,000 Efforts upcoming to reduce even more

Women’s Ministries -- $600 Funds retreats, speakers, etc. for women’s programs. Down from last year’s $1,000 Worship -- $1,500 Funds paperless hymnal, other worship aids and needs. Youth -- $3,500 Decreased from last year’s $6,000

Total needs for basic budget for $4,500 per week Down from last year’s $5,200 Expanded budget -- $5,200 per week Includes option for salary/housing of a Family Involvement Minister. Intention is to expand our youth ministry and family involvement in the ministries at Southside. Expanded budget must be consistently met to enable this expansion of ministry.

How will we meet/exceed this budget? Through Faith – Ephesians 3:20-21 “Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, 21to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen.” Do we believe God can provide?

Through generosity 2 Corinthians 9:10-11 Now he who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will also supply and increase your store of seed and will enlarge the harvest of your righteousness.You will be made rich in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion, and through us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God.

Through liberality in giving Proverbs 11:24 One man gives freely, yet gains even more; another withholds unduly, but comes to poverty. Do we believe that God can replenish our means to provide for our needs if our generosity overflows in liberality?

Great examples in liberality 1 Chronicles 22:14 -- "I have taken great pains to provide for the temple of the LORD a hundred thousand talents of gold, a million talents of silver, quantities of bronze and iron too great to be weighed, and wood and stone. And you may add to them.” About 3,750 tons of gold About $37,500 tons of silver

True, David gave out of his riches. The wonderful thing is, he gave this even knowing that he was to be forbidden by God to build the temple. David believed in giving to the Lord only the very best. Nothing was withheld.

Through obedience to God’s commands: Proverbs 3:9 -- Honor the LORD with your wealth, with the firstfruits of all your crops; then your barns will be filled to overflowing, and your vats will brim over with new wine. The Lord comes first in our giving He commands the firstfruits, not the leftovers. He expects generosity, liberality and faith.

Under the old covenant the Lord demanded a tenth of all – no exceptions. There are no imposed limitations under the new covenant. A tenth is a good starting place for Christians. Less is too little once a Christian has recovered from failure to put God first. Nothing is completely unacceptable. The poverty-stricken widow gave God all she had.
