There are 50 stars that stand for the 50 states in America. Any time a new state was admitted, a new star would be added on the next fourth of July. www.worldatlas.com

In June 1776, Betsy Ross was asked by George Washington and a Committee to sew the first “Star-Spangled Banner” (flag).

The government did not tell exactly how the stars should be arranged and the size of the flag, so there were several designs.
