Before giving the speech, you will tell the audience… who you are….you can pretend/make up your persona who the audience is

Be sure to state the: Purpose (you can say it so it blends into the speech, but the audience needs to be clear before you get to the end of the speech) Mandate—What gives you the authority to make this speech? Why should the audience listen? (How will this benefit them, what’s their part in it, etc?)

Be SPECIFIC Be INCLUSIVE—Use words like WE, OUR, US Win with words—Use words with positive and persuasive connotation Include different persuasive/propaganda techniques and appeals

Use REPETITION and PARALLELISM—these build momentum and power within your speech. They lead your audience to your desired conclusion and puts emphasis on that point. Build MOMENTUM—the speech should have a flow to it that builds to your ultimate purpose CONNECT with your audience—include examples, stories, or points that they will relate to, connect with, and/or find convincing

Use VOCABULARY and DICTION appropriate for your audience Match your TONE to your subject Be CLEAR, DIRECT, and STRONG Subtly remind the audience of your authority

Maintain EYE CONTACT with your audience. Make them feel like you are speaking to each one of them individually and that you are connected with them. Don’t fidget, giggle, or do anything to distract your audience from your speech Be LOUD and CONFIDENT

Give CALL TO ACTION—What do you want your audience to do now? The speech should have a finality to it; it should be clear that this is the end without you telling us

What will be the most effective way to structure your speech? story/anecdote debate the pros/cons affirmations cause and effect step by step question and answer
