The WildCare Trust was set up in 2005 with the aim of saving endangered animals from extinction. It is a charity which relies on its members for financial support to continue its work.  Membership fees are our main source of income, supported by the animal adoption scheme and donations.  We have developed a database of endangered species which can be downloaded and used by members.  Members may choose any animal in the database and adopt it by completing an application form and paying a fee. In return they are sent an adoption certificate and a bookmark featuring their adopted animal plus regular updates throughout the year.

Click to return to ‘Home’ Slide Did you know?  Since 1500, over 800 species of plants and animals have gone extinct!  Humans have caused the extinction of numerous animals throughout history, such as moa birds in Malaysia and giant lemurs in Madagascar.  1,170 animals species worldwide are endangered, half of which reside in the United States.  According to the USDA Forest Service, “the extinction of even a single species may result in the disappearance of up to 30 other species of plants and wildlife”. Thanks to humans, I live no MOA! We Polar Bears are going extinct, too!

Click to return to ‘Home’ Slide More and more animals all over the world are rapidly becoming endangered due to threats posed both by the environment and by humans. The four main threats to animals are:  Climate change - Human activities (e.g. burning fossil fuels) have changed the Earth's atmosphere and have resulted in global climate changes such as rising temperatures worldwide.  Loss of habitat - Humans destroy animal habitats so they can use the land for agriculture, development of towns and cities, or other purposes  Hunting - Some endangered species are targeted for their value on illegal markets, for example the ‘Pig Nosed Turtle’ is hunted because of their unusual appearance (they have a nose shaped like a pig’s snout).  Predators – In the wild, prey animals are at risk from being killed by predators, which are stronger and better adapted to their environment.
