Endangered or Not? Are polar bears really endangered?

Some of you may be wondering if polar bears are endangered or not. Well, to answer that, they are endangered and there’s not a lot we can do about it. Here, imagine this, lets say you’re a polar bear and you are living in the arctic and all the ice is melting. You depend on ice for survival. Yes, you’re a great swimmer, but you can’t swim forever! How will you catch your food? Eventually, you will die, because of Global warming. Intro

Are Polar Bears Endangered? Are polar bears endangered? Well to answer that, yes, they are endangered. Scientists think that in about 50 years or less, polar bears might become extinct because the earth is becoming warmer. Yes, that is great news for us but polar bears depend on ice and snow for survival. Polar bears are great swimmers, but, like I said earlier, they can’t swim forever.

How Would Global Warming Affect the Polar Bears? Global warming IS affecting polar bears. The earth’s atmosphere is now getting thicker and not allowing as much heat to go back to space. That’s not alright! Polar bears really depend on ice and snow for survival. They catch their food on the ice, and the less time on the ice means the less time eating. Polar bears need enough fat to survive throughout the spring and summer. If they don’t eat enough, they can’t survive.

Can Scientist Help This Issue! Scientists are trying to help by bringing some polar bears to the zoo. Unfortunately, they can’t bring all of the polar bears. Scientists have also been working in the arctic region and have been taking ice core samples deep into the ice and snow. They have made lots of discoveries. The carbon dioxide levels have never been higher. What does that mean? It means that the earth has more carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. This is not good! How will we save the polar bears? Well, we can’t really do anything.

In recent studies, not only is global warming killing the polar bears. There are also bad chemicals that people are releasing into the environment. There’s something called Mercury that scientists have found in polar bear bodies. Mercury is also in other animals that the polar bear eats. It can start with just one fish and can go through the whole food chain! So when the polar bear eats a seal, there Mercury from the seal enters the polar bear’s body, which affects their survival.

So now do you see what polar bears are faced with!? They are in danger and may be extinct soon. We can’t prevent much from happening, but we are still trying. Do you understand now that the polar bears are endangered! I hope this article impacted you and made you think about what’s going on with the world around us. website I used:
