CALCUTTA SOUTH WEST.  INDUCTED: 23 SEPTEMBER 1983  CLUB PRESIDENT:  DISTRICT GOVERNOR:  RIPR TO DIST 3220: 2004  DISTRICT TRAINER: 2006 – 2007 & 2009 – 2010  MEMBER INPPC: JULY 2010 – DATE [D.3240 & D.3291]  PHF +2; TRF BEQUEST SOCIETY  RECIPIENT: REGIONAL SERVICE AWARD FOR A POLIO FREE WORLD

WHY MEMBERSHIP DEVELOPMENT??  ROTARY WORLD WIDE MEMBERSHIP STAGNATED AT 1.2 MILLION FOR MORE THAN 15 YEARS!!  80% OF ROTARIANS ACROSS THE WORLD HAVE NEVER INTRODUCED A NEW MEMBER!!  ROTARY MEMBERSHIP IS “BY INVITATION”  MEMBERSHIP DEVELOPMENT MEANS GROWTH!!

SOURCE  FRIENDS!  FAMILY & RELATIVES!  COLLEAGUES!  BUSINESS ASSOCIATES!  JAYCEES, ROUND TABLERS!  EX-ROTARACTORS!  FORMER GSE MEMBERS!  COMMUNITY LEADERS!  PROFESSIONALS! ‘EACH ONE INTRODUCE ONE’

FOLLOW A PROCESS!  INVITE AS YOUR GUEST TO 3 OR 4 RWM & CLUB PROJECTS!  INVITE AS A GUEST SPEAKER!  SUBMIT PROPOSAL TO BOARD!  MEMBERSHIP & CLASSIFICATION COMM.  PRE-INDUCTION TALK.  DECISION AT NEXT BOARD MEETING!  SUBSCRIPTION!  MEMORABLE INDUCTION  PROPER ASSIMILATION!

CAUTION!!  MAKE THE CANDIDATE AWARE OF WHAT HE / SHE IS GETTING INTO: SUBSCRIPTION, ATTENDANCE, PARTICIPATION ETC. ETC.  ONCE INDUCTED, MAKE THE NEW MEMBER FEEL WANTED.  INVOLVE – GIVE RESPONSIBILITY.  DO NOT EXPLOIT.

RETENTION!!  AS IMPORTANT AS DEVELOPMENT!!  WHY DOES A MEMBER WANT TO LEAVE?  CAN GRIEVANCES BE ADDRESSED? USUAL GRIEVANCES:  NO TIME / BUSY!  EXPENSIVE!  FEELING IGNORED!  LOSS OF INTEREST!  BORING!!
