Motion Capture week 1  What to expect from this module  Lectures and tutorials  Assignment  Getting started with motion capture

What’s this module all about?  This module will familiarise you with the concepts of motion capture and animation.  Working in groups you will characterize a given character with your recorded motions  you will plan your motion capture shoot using the appropriate methods

Lecturers and Tutorials  Will consist of a 1 hour lecture, once a week  You will also have a 2 hour tutorial scheduled This will be used for planning your capture Capturing the data Cleaning and editing data

Assignment  You will work in groups of 6.

Roles and responsibilities  Each member of the group will be responsible for a different element of the project  Director  Choreographer  Performer  Software Technician  Video editor  Sound recorder

Director  Takes overall responsibility for the project  Good for those power hungry amongst you  Communicates the overall goal of the project to the group  Responsible for the financial control of the project

Software Technician  Will verbally communicate with the director regarding capture quality  Will inform the performer and choreographer of ways to avoid capture issues.  Will process the raw data and distribute the data amongst the group

Choreographer  Responsible for creating 2d plans of Motion Capture take  Must rehearse the motions with the performer,  Responsible for addressing the performer with the director

Video editor  Will be in charge of the video equipment during filming.  Will be in charge of compiling the renders in a video editing package.

Sound effects  Will communicate the audio requirements for the scene  Will acquire the sounds affects needed  Will work with the video editor to sync the audio to the final edit.

Performer  Will rehearse the performance with the choreographer  Will take directions from the director, then the choreographer in the capture environment.  Will communicate concerns over performance and wellbeing to director.

What about the data?  You will all be responsible for cleaning up the data. It will be distributed equally amongst the team .....Who’s in charge of that?

Working in groups?  As you will be working in groups you will be peer assessed  You will mark others from 10 to 0.  Start at 10 and deduct marks for absence, unprofessional conduction or is inconsiderate of the group goal.

what you will be capturing  Each group will be given a character they must recreate using the surfer character.

Blackboard  Your groups must be registered on blackboard for next week.  Any groups not registered in week3 will be fined 
