Wonderful Student Period 3 Surviving the Applewhites by Stephanie S. Tolan

Main Characters Jake Semple is 13 years old, has spiked hair, and wears all black clothing. He is a juvenile delinquent who is sent to Creative Academy. He is a dynamic protagonist. E.D Applewhite is almost 13, scruffy, and likes organization. She is the only one in her family that is not creative. She is a dynamic protagonist.

Setting- Creative Academy  The Creative Academy is located in Traybridge, NC. It sits on 16 acres and includes the main house and eight cottages, a goat shed, a tool shed and a barn.

Conflict  The main conflict in this story is the internal conflict Jake has within himself. He doesn’t feel like he fits in and causes trouble. He gets kicked out of every school he goes to until the only school that will take him is Creative Academy. He blossoms at this school and learns that he has talents that come out when he works with others.

Prediction  I predicted that Jake will make changes in his life so that he doesn’t continue to get into trouble. I think this because in most cases, people don’t like to get into trouble so I think Jake will turn his life around and do great things.  My prediction was accurate and Jake did change his life and he didn’t get into trouble anymore.

Surviving the Applewhites

Theme  Surviving the Applewhites is about finding out who you are and where you fit into this world instead of letting the world make you fit what it wants you to be.
