Next steps with gender statistics (Global) Three main components of the global programme Interagency and expert group to advance gender statistics at the global level Bulletin Board as a technical & information resource and channel for networking Developing training course (package/module)

Interagency and Expert Group on Gender statistics Form of the group (high level, technical group?) Main tasks  To take stock  Review progress, challenges and emerging needs  Propose actions Level of reporting World Forum for Gender Statistics

Bulletin board for gender statistics For UN, UN funds and programmes, other international, regional organizations and national institutions One-stop-shop on who is doing/has done what, technical resources to draw on, etc. Provide channel for networking Tools and materials Activities and programmes, including meetings, data collection development work Data, methodologies, definitions, etc.

Develop training courses Two-prong approach For national statisticians to adopt gender perspective in routine statistical work, of NSOs and line ministries For short-term training (stand-alone or part of regular statistics training programmes) for broader target audience

Some modalities In next two months UNSD as Secretariat Set up a steering committee (of key partners – UNSD, WB, UNFPA and a couple more agencies with field presence) Work with DAW to get IAEG-GS outcome before the Statistical Commission

Time frame Produce the design for the Bulletin Board Initiate the database Next meeting of the IAEG-GS Forum on Gender statistics Next two months (February 2007) In four months (April 2007) When and where? Rome, when?

Some issues for the steering committee For Bulletin Board Who does it? How to update the relevant information? How to maintain database For training courses By whom? (what institutions) Who delivers the course? How often? Who pays?
