Innovative Technology in the Classroom Pinterest

What is Pinterest? Pinterest is a social network that allows users to visually share, and discover new interests by pinning onto their theme-based virtual boards and browsing what other users have pinned.

Pinterest: Pins Pins are the items that are shown on Pinterest. For the classroom, they can include anything from a bulletin board idea to classroom management ideas that other teachers have used.

Sample FACS Pins

Pinterest: Boards AKA: The “Folders” of Pinterest. Boards are where you pin the ideas you see. There is no limit on how many boards one person can have. They can be organized by specific classes (Child Development), FCCLA, Technology, and so forth. It can be designed however you want. These boards make it easy to organize and review the ideas you find while on Pinterest.

Pinterest Ideas Bulletin Boards

Using Pinterest In the Classroom Have students create boards dedicated to research projects. This is a great way for students who are working on group projects to share resources remotely and then generate discussion based on the research that was completed. The research is easy to use and share, and the visual appeal of Pinterest will make it easier for students to organize the information they collect.

Using Pinterest In the Classroom During an absence, you can instruct students to read specific articles or follow certain links that are on your board for the class and work on an assignment with those items. They can also search for things over a specific topic that can be added to the board for that class. Helps build discussion when reviewing these ideas before pinning.

Using Pinterest In the Classroom Students have an opportunity to have group boards in a Foods class to pin ideas of recipes that interest them. Can be used as a free portfolio for students. Anyone can pin anything.

Why Use Pinterest? Everything is in one place Pinterest keeps everything organized It allows you to step into other classrooms and pull ideas to use without having to leave your classroom Networking It is a tool that connects people based on tastes, interests, or occupations
