Today’s Warm Up: Answer the following: 1.Compare and contrast Gateshead Hall to The Lowood School. 2.Explain Jane’s parentage (how she became an orphan and the ward of Mrs. Reed). 3.List 3 conflicts that Jane endures in the first 10 chapters (the first 18 years of her life) both at Gateshead and at Lowood. 4.What roles do Bessie and Miss Temple play in the novel? Explain.

Jane Eyre: Chs As a group, answer the following on ONE piece of paper: 1.Describe Thornfield. 2.Describe Jane’s first meeting with Rochester. 3.Who is Adele? What do we know about her parentage? 4.Explain the character Grace Poole (at this point, what does Jane think in the novel). 5.How do chapters support Jane Eyre as a Gothic novel? Provide specific examples.

So I love to highlight…and I love to use post its!!!! Today our focus in on the first 10 chapters of Jane Eyre and making connections between it and HRLLP (it pops up all year so no eye rolling please). Task: Find 1-2 examples of each of the following elements from HRLLP and more and “post it note” that page. On the post it, write what it is an example of and why (think symbolism and significance here). Divide and conquer in your groups to make this go faster…we may have to share tomorrow after the quiz!
