REVALIDA The revalida is the final examination required for the degree of Doctorate in Medicine (M.D.) at the University of Santo Tomas

OBJECTIVES a.Formation of a physician who is competent in the art and science of medicine with the necessary background to become a basic physician and/or postgraduate training in any of the specialties in medicine b.Formation of a physician who is aware of and responsive to the health and medical needs of the Filipino and society. c.Formation of a physician who is conscious of the religious and moral obligations of a Catholic Physician. a.Formation of a physician who is competent in the art and science of medicine with the necessary background to become a basic physician and/or postgraduate training in any of the specialties in medicine b.Formation of a physician who is aware of and responsive to the health and medical needs of the Filipino and society. c.Formation of a physician who is conscious of the religious and moral obligations of a Catholic Physician.

PARTS The revalida is composed of two parts: the first and second exercises – which are given successively to eligible medical clerks.

THE FIRST EXERCISE The written Revalida and the first oral examination constitute the first exercise.

COMPREHENSIVE WRITTEN EXAMINATION SCOPE AND OBJECTIVES The written examination is comprehensive, integrating the basic and clinical disciplines with questions that test the candidates’ stock of medical information and their ability to analyze and solve medical problems. It is administered once a year. The passing grade for the written revalida is 75%. REQUIREMENTS FOR ELIGIBILITY FOR ORAL EXERCISES To qualify for the oral exercise, the medical senior must have completed ten (10) months of Clerkship with satisfactory grades for those who enrolled in April (Regular); twelve (12) months of clerkship with satisfactory grades for those who enrolled after April 16 (Irregular). They must have:

a.No incomplete/failing grades in any service; no repeat service. b.No deficiencies (April 16 – February 14); a maximum of (3) days of unexcused or (9) days of excused absences is allowed. To ensures similar difficulty levels, the same general questions are asked of all three clerks assigned to a tribunal. Clerks are prohibited from conferring with each other during the First Exercise particularly after a candidate has finished the 1 st exercise and others have yet to take the same. A candidate must satisfactorily answer a minimum of 65% of the questions asked to obtain the equivalent passing grade of 75%. Those who fail to attain the minimum passing score are not allowed to proceed to the 2 nd exercise. SCOPE The second exercise requires the student to: 1.Examine a patient at the STUH Clinical Division, diagnose the case and present an appropriate plan of investigation and therapy. These must be presented and adequately discussed before the tribunal, then formally submitted as part of the student’s expediente. 2.Discuss fully and satisfactorily a medical or surgical emergency. TRIBUNALS The students are assigned to each tribunal for oral examination. The assignment to tribunals is by lottery, held in the presence of the University Registrar, Dean, Assistant Dean, Faculty Secretary, Director of Clinical Programs and the officers of the graduating class and/or their representative. Each tribunal is composed of 3 faculty members from the basic, medical and surgical disciplines. The students are assigned to each tribunal for oral examination. The assignment to tribunals is by lottery, held in the presence of the University Registrar, Dean, Assistant Dean, Faculty Secretary, Director of Clinical Programs and the officers of the graduating class and/or their representative. TRIBUNALS All bona fide faculty members of the UST Faculty of Medicine and Surgery, tenured or non-tenured, are assigned to these tribunals as part of their academic responsibilities. SPECIAL CONDITIONS A student who finishes clerkship must take the Revalida within two years. Those who fail to do so will be required to repeat medical clerkship.
