Objectives Determine the importance of first impressions Identify key components of first impressions Demonstrate: Proper handshake, introductions, & posture Determine proper attire Compose a poster advertising one thing to do to make a great first impresssion

What makes a good first impression? Proper handshake Proper introduction Good posture Neat appearance: attire grooming personal hygiene

How long does it take to make an impression? seconds

Proper Posture Sit up Sit on edge of seat Place feet underneath you Lean slightly forward

Professional Dress for Women A business suit- blue, gray, black Keep skirt length appropriate: hemline no shorter than the bottom of the knee Solid colors One ring per hand One set of earrings Quality fabrics Shoes that match

Professional Dress for Men Conservative suit color; ex. Blue, gray, black A white collared shirt & conserv- ative tie, no wild patterns (car- toon characters) Socks to match suit No accessories (a watch is fine) Avoid wearing a fancy, expensive suit Don’t wear athletic socks Shoes need to be shined
