Ambulatory Block One Month for Interns Ambulatory Morning report at 8:00AM –Monday through Thursday –Held in VA Firm conference room –Combination Journal Club, Case Reviews
Ambulatory Block –Friday 8:00 AM is screening morning report Emergency medicine topics Held in screening conference room –Wednesday mornings is VA Women’s Health Held in Women’s health conference room –VA third floor
Ambulatory Block AM Clinics at VA from 9:00-12:00 noon –Cardiology, rheumatology, endocrinology, dermatology, women’s health –Staffed by subspecialty attendings PM clinics from 1:00-5:00PM –Combination of continuity clinic, subspecialty clinics, asthma clinic, free clinic, TB clinic in addition to screening
Continuity Clinic Each Intern has one-half day of clinic per week 1:00-5:00PM Clinic on same day of each week with same preceptor Clinic is scheduled during all rotations except during ICU and X-cover time Clinic occurs during on-call and post-call days –Ward coverage by team/fellow interns
Continuity Clinic Totally Random Assignment to clinics with the exception of preliminary interns who staff a VA urgent clinic Either at the VA or Douglas Moore Clinic at UH –VA is a Firm based system Based on last digit of SSN –Firm A even, Firm B odd –UH is not firm based
Continuity Clinic Ambulatory article for each clinic –Articles passed out each six months Discussed during clinic –Pre-clinic at the VA –Post-clinic at DMC Clinic schedule available for the entire year –Check schedule for any conflicts Clinic during vacation or ICU/X-cover time
Continuity Clinic Clinic cannot be cancelled except by Ambulatory chief resident Must be to clinic on time
Screening The VA “Emergency Room” –New facility opened May 2002 Services Non-traumatic Veterans –Wide range of presenting patients Medication requests to shock states Staffed by 5 residents in addition to Interns –One or Two Attending Physicians
Screening Starts at 9:00 AM Monday-Thursday Morning Report Friday at 8:00AM –Emergency medicine topics Day ends at 6:00PM with signout to MOD Screening is equivalent to wards
