Successful Stand Displays Farmers’ Market Entrepreneur

Purposes of Your Display Your display is how you present your products to the potential customer.

Your display gives your customer their first impression of your stand and your product.

Post photos of your farm and family at your stand. Remember folks love to connect to you and know where their food is coming from.

Purposes of Your Display The most important purpose is to draw customers to your stand.

You can’t sell anything to a customer that doesn’t drop by your stand. Your display should invite customers to come over and shop your stand. BECAUSE…

Purposes of Your Display Your display’s second purpose is to show your product at its best.

Some products are best in baskets, like apples. Some need to be on ice or bunched together. Each product has its own “best” way. The way you display your product should let the customer see the best qualities of your product.

Purposes of Your Display Thirdly, your display should add to the customer’s experience

Farmers’ market customers come to the market for fresh products and to support local farmers, but they also come for the atmosphere and experience of shopping there.

The use of bright table cloths, tents and informative signs lends a festive atmosphere to the shopping experience.

Display Tips You don’t have to use all these tips but try to put a few to use to improve your sales.

Add height to your display using shelves or risers. Hanging some items may be appropriate. This makes good use of your small space and let’s the customer see all your products.

More Examples of Adding Height

Tilt product toward customer so you can see it as you approach the table

If your customer can’t see what you are offering they won’t approach your table and you don’t make a sale! What is in these baskets?

More Examples of Tilting Product

Use consistent containers to get a clean, professional look.

Stack produce high to give impression of bounty and customer choice.

Studies of consumer behavior show that no one wants to buy the last one because they feel they are getting “what everyone else picked over.”

More Examples of Stacking Product High

If you start with a bushel basket, bring along more containers with smaller capacity to move the product into as it is sold. You may need several of these containers in ever smaller sizes.

You can also bring paper or cloth to stuff the bottom of the basket to raise the product up toward the top of the basket.

Present your product above knee level Will customers bend over to look at items on the parking lot?

Color, Color, Color Color contrasting table cloths Mix up the colors of your offerings

More Examples of Mixing Up Colors

Signage $.50 each $1.00 per lb. Young and tender Picked this morning Ask for recipes Good with new potatoes

Let your signs set you apart from the rest

Use signs to tell customers why they should visit you

Use large easy to read letters with good contrast

Clearly state the price and how the product is sold…by the pound, per item, by the box, etc.

Proudly identify your product as “Kentucky Proud!”
