Specifications and Blade Types OBJECTIVE: give basic facts on the reciprocating saw tool. By: Phuong Dinh Points of Discussion Definitions Types of Reciprocating Saws Main Types of Blades Available

Definitions Reciprocating: an alternating forward and reverse motion Saw: any tool that is hand or power driven composed of a sharp metal blade used to cut materials Motor: a device that converts any form of energy into mechanical energy No Load Speed: range of possible speeds of the blade measured in strokes per minute. Blade Stroke: distance covered by the blade per half- cycle Shank Capacity: the maximum blade height that can be fitted into the unit.

Types of Reciprocating Saw Mastercraft Cordless (Battery) Electric Model Air Model (Industrial Applications) Motor14.4 V120 V90 psi- air pressure No Load Speed spm spm spm Blade Stroke 7/8 inch1 ¼ inch1 1/8 inch Shank Capacity ½ inch blade clamp standard blade clamp

Main Types of Blades Available 3” to 12” in length, thickness and heights varies TPI (teeth per inch): ranges from 3 to 18- more teeth allow a smoother cut but slower Teeth may vary in shape- granular, wavy, triangular… 1.Bi-Metal – composed of two types of metals, high durability (some strong ones are composed of 8 % cobalt) 2.Carbide Steel Coated - used on extremely hard or abrasive materials such as cement and tile 3.Tungsten Carbide Tipped (Granulated with carbide) – fast cutting for wood, plastic, fiberboard…

Summary Blade stroke, TPI, no load speed are some terms applicable to other things. Many types of blades available such as: fire & rescue bi-metal, u-shank bi-metal, demolition bi-metal… with its own unique design for a unique task REFERENCE &pid= Craftmaster Manual Guide
