What causes Culture to change?

Definition- skills and tools people use As technology changes so does the world’s culture around it. 1. Technology

From simple farming to the computer age and everything in between are types of technology

As technology increases the world becomes a much more complicated network Countries and people become dependent on each other

As the natural environment shifts and changes so does human culture Changing Environment

1.what people grow for food changes what people eat 2.As people change the environment it can change where we live

New ideas can have great effect on culture and our everyday lives Examples such as recycling and conservation New Ideas

Defintion- movement of customs or ideas from one place to another Goods, skills, ideas, and technology are influences & become a part of other cultures Diffusion

Diffusion can occur through peaceful means like trade, or the internet

Understanding Culture As technology increases it can lead to cultures changing quickly Sometimes for the good, and sometimes with terrible results Much of it is how new culture is approached

Negative Aspects of Cultural Change Ethnocentrism- judging other cultures by the standards of your own culture (“They are wrong because they are not like me”)
