4 Program Goals Provide the capability to share incident information horizontally and vertically Provide free basic incident management tools Ensure response staff is trained and experienced in using these tools Encourage a culture that promotes information sharing Create a practitioner-driven, public-private partnership to produce information exchange standards relating to incident management

5 Program Objectives Provide a single source of access to information and services relating to disasters Enhance the nation’s ability to cope with incidents by increasing the ability to share information during emergencies

6 Program Status Providing free basic incident management tools (DMIS) and a path to upgrade to commercial products Established the infrastructure, supporting tools, and information sharing capabilities Developing practitioner-driven messaging standards and working with vendors to implement them into commercial products as well as our own –Messaging standards allow all incident management software and systems to communicate seamlessly Memorandum of Agreement with the Emergency Interoperability Consortium (EIC) to implement standards in commercial software

7 Approach Incident management data standards National standards driven by practioners, not Federal agencies - Public standards Practitioners define requirements and set priorities –Facilitating, not producing –DHS drafts standards based on above –Non Profit Consortium of Vendors implements standards and submits to: –Formal Standards Organizations for approval and publication Will be establishing a process to certify compliance for interoperable systems and devices Bridging the gap between the Have’s and Have’s Not for incident management applications and the ability to share data
