The SuperDuper-HoverRacerizer Brought to You by Team 4: Stuart Jennifer Hoa Tyrone Erin

Problem Statement (yawn) Due to the demanding nature of engineering projects in Engineering Fundamentals 108, we are faced with the problem of working after hours in Morrill. However, we must transport our projects to Estabrook in order to test them. We propose to construct a hovercraft which will assist us in transit, using common dorm room items, such as leaf blowers and plywood. The item needs to be cost effective and easy to maintain.

Objectives Considered Speed Cost & Difficulty of Construction Attractiveness

Original Ideas Sheet Plastic Pressboard Construction Lid & Holes System Why we improved upon this design: Needed smoother ground contact Needed sturdier construction – ripping loose

The Solution? Something strong, lightweight and donut-shaped: …an Inner Tube!

Or for that matter, the Inflatable Hydro-Aviator River Tube by SportsStuff, complete with handle bars and cup holders. (But man, was it ugly!)

Aesthetic Considerations and a brief introduction to red shift The non-relativistic velocity due to Doppler shift in free space is given as: and Therefore, the red paint job and racing stripe make the hovercraft travel faster. Source:

Air Flow Plastic seal at seams prevents leaks Pressure lifts the device

Motor Support Safety bonus: motor cannot fall off Looks fancy Ensures integrity of air flow

Product Testing Prototype testing: limited results Improved design testing: improved results!

Conclusions Designs from the Internet are best modified Simple is better You can find new uses for everyday objects EF108 is the best class ever

THE END!
