Think Outside the Traditional Box Using everything at your fingertips to plant the seeds. Today communications is a two-way conversation. We are now the media and the publisher. People expect to get information in real time. 2

Who is Already Invested In You? Your customer/prospect is already here. This is where to reach the interns and recruits you want to hire. People will tune you out if you sell. Instead, this platform is for sharing, informing, educating, and entertaining. 3

The Internet Simplifies The tools are endless. There is a paper-trail in case you lose something. Being “shareable” means people can find you instead of you looking for them. It’s the best brochure, it’s mostly free, and it’s interactive. Anyone under 31 has never known life without a personal computer or the Internet – they WANT to connect in this platform. The ROI or return on investment (time) is instantly measurable. 4

The Internet Is Not the Future; It Is the PRESENT Marketing 101: You are not your market. 5

Research Is Easy Social media matters in search engines. Applicants vet companies before the interview, and companies vet applicants before interview. 6

Website A website or blog site is the home base. All activity points back to that link. Create a business plan for the website to include its purpose and the single action viewers are expected to do when they land on the page. (You have 8 seconds to capture their interest.) 7

Social Media Is Serious Business Facebook tops Google in online traffic in the United States. If Facebook were a country, it would be the 3 rd largest in the world. A new member joins LinkedIn every second. Social gamers will buy $6 BILLION in virtual goods by 2013, while movie-goers will buy $2.5 billion in REAL goods. 9

Social Networking Social networking is a professional enrichment tool. Michael Gass, Fuelines: – It is networking on steroids – The cost of your social media education is going to be great but if you don’t invest in your education now, it will be costlier later. 10

Creating Successful Social Media There is a protocol to follow for spreading oneself virally. You must be genuine – people will spot a phony a mile away. Know that it will continually evolve. Roll with it. 11

Making Internet Media Relevant Create an Internet media campaign around a public service announcement, a political campaign, a new product, special offer, business, message, celebrity… Detail the end goal, purpose, how to tie-in and integrate different medias AND incorporate mainstream media platforms, event planning, too. Internet media is about PEOPLE and connecting, not about a social playground. 12

Technology Chances are you or someone you know has embraced a smartphone, tablet, or eReader. As with the personal computer, people are adapting to new and future technologies rather than staying with their typewriters and telex machines. Even the fax is passé. Businesses need to show up bug-free in mobile technology. Business is global and opportunities are better than one can even imagine. 13
