there There is used when making a statement: There are eleven players on a football team. Or when writing about place: Please put the groceries down over there. HINT: If you are using there to tell the reader where, both words have h-e-r-e. Here is also a place.

their Their means ‘belonging to them’: I went over to their house to watch TV. They always take their dog with them on vacations.

their HINT: If you are using their as a possessive pronoun, you are telling the reader what they own. Their has h-e-i-r, which also means heir, as in someone who inherits something. Both words have to do with ownership.

they’re They’re is used instead of ‘they are’: They’re going to the market on Saturday. I think they’re lovely cats.
