Let’s get down to the business of geography

Why do we study the world using themes? How does it help us study different areas?

 Do Nows - some missing from last week - 20 points for the week - responses generally good  Chapter 1, Section 1 DRA/Vocab - Due today - staple vocab sheet to the back  Grades are updated – missing items  Use the Wikispace: ss200.wikispaces.com

 Located on the back board - Your class is SS200 - review the daily goals  At the end of each class review the goals and think about your ability to meet those goals - were you successful? - do you need more work on the concepts?

 Ceasefire in Ukraine - filled with gunfire, rockets, and explosions - fragile “peace”  U.S. airstrikes in Iraq - attack ISIS near another key Iraqi dam - Are we at War?

Why do we study the world using themes? How does it help us study different areas?

 Examples of each theme can be the same - Run off (erosion) on the land, can be movement and interaction - Region and Location are often the same  When finding examples, pick the one that applies best

 How did you get to school today?  Where do you live?  What’s the most beautiful place you have ever been? Which theme of geography do these questions relate to? Be specific.

 Which theme(s) is/are represented in these pictures?

 Read the Article on the Colorado River - complete the organizer - be detailed in your responses  Identify all examples of each theme you can find

1. List two themes of geography and the questions associated with those themes. 2. How would you use the themes of geography to study regions unfamiliar to you? Explain your answer.
