Presentation transcript:

PURPOSE -TO INTERPRET A LITERARY TEXT -TO ANALYZE CHARACTER BEHAVIORS -TO UNDERSTAND EXPECTATIONS FOR EA1 Lesson 16 Act III Scene 1 EA1 Introduction Turn in your AOW!

Bell Ringer - Quickwrite In one short paragraph (4-7 sentences), think about action scenes that you have seen on TV or in video games or movies. On a separate sheet, quickwrite about action scenes that involve fighting. Think about… Why do people fight? Who usually wins in a fight? Why? Under what circumstance would you fight? What are the consequences of fighting? How do angry feelings make fighting escalate?

Scene 1 Let’s read Act III Scene 1!

Graphic Organizer Character Analysis After reading Scene 1, try to imagine the action in your head and think about why the characters are doing what they are doing. Fill out the graphic organizer on page 288 to help analyze the characters.

Analyze Arguments After reading the scene, analyze the arguments made by each side. The Prince must sentence Romeo to some kind of punishment for killing Tybalt. What punishment for Romeo does Lady Capulet demand? What punishment does Lord Montague suggest? What is the Prince’s decree or decision.

EA1 Let’s discuss EA1…

Exit Ticket Do you think this is a fair punishment for the crime? Explain your reasoning and argue your point.
