Picking a Color Color cards Look at them when the sun is out. Look at them when sun has set. With smaller rooms, use lighter colors Accent walls A way to add more than one color Changes appearance of the room

Picking a Paint Type Flat Normally for ceilings Satin Rooms with higher activity Semi gloss Kitchens and Bathrooms Gloss Kitchens, Bathrooms, furniture, etc.

Types of Materials for Different Patterns Roller – Solid wall colors Brush – Cutting in Feather dusters, sponges, and plastic bags – Create different textures and patterns Use the painters tape to create sections of varying colors. Etc.

Preparing the Walls Wipe down the walls with a damp cloth. Fix up any defects like dents. Use Primer if: The original color is vibrant The original color is a Darker color The type of paint was used before The type of surface/material

Painting 1) Preparation Lay out drop cloths Know which paint goes where Get supplies: Paint roller pan Brushes, Rollers and its handle Screw drivers Hammer

Painting 2) Cutting in Use painter’s tape along the ceiling, floors and moulding Cut in using a paint brush Keep in mind that the width should be minimal. Reduces streak marks No more than three inches wide

Painting Continued 3) Rolling Open the paint can using the screw driver. Fill the paint pan half way up. Gently roll the roller through the paint and up over the upper angled flat section of the pan. Begin rolling Do not press too hard on the wall. Also do not roll too fast.

Painting Continued 4) Drying Use the time recommended on the paint can. Remember that as the paint dries it will darken. Examine the walls to see if a second coat needs to be applied. Note: In most cases a second or even a third coat of paint will need to be used.

Painting Continued 5) Cleaning up Use the hammer and part of the drop cloth to close the paint lid Roll up the drop cloth Clean out paint brushes and rollers
