Mission Statement To facilitate secure airports and airspace by providing fast and accurate identification of pilots, flight crew, airport tarmac personnel, and passengers through the use of non-invasive biometrics.

Security Plan Stage 1: Implementation of the S.A.F.E. Identification unit facilitates accurate identification of pilots, flight crew, and airport personnel as they move into secured areas. Fast and accurate identification No exposure to potentially harmful radiation

Stage 2: Implementation of the S.A.F.E. Identification unit for passengers as they move into security screening areas of the airport Decreases congestion at security check-in Cost-saving measure – decreasing number of airport personnel at checkpoints

About AirGuard Biometrics Iris biometrics are as unique as a fingerprint and, in fact, faster than a fingerprint in providing positive identification. Studies have shown multimodal hand biometrics to be a very promising technology for fast data collection with extremely high accuracy. Figure one:

Science Behind the Iris Scan Mathematical analysis of the random patterns that are visible within the iris of an eye from some distance. It combines computer vision, pattern recognition, statistical inference and optics.

Science Behind the Iris Scan When the camera takes a picture, the computer locates: – The center of the pupil – The edge of the pupil – The edge of the iris – The eyelids and eyelashes The computer then translates this information into a code. More than 200 reference points (fingerprint only 60-70)!

Science Behind the Multimodal Hand Scan The imaging system captures geometric hand shape, fingerprints, and palm print modalities of a user’s hand by a single user interaction

Science Behind the Multimodal Hand Scan Hand Geometry The imaging system measures and records the length, width, thickness, and surface area of an individual’s hand Measurement is non-intrusive and verification involves simple processing of the resulting features

Why Our Scans Are Better! Old hand scanners Bulky Outdated Fingers need to be just right New Hand Scanners Just place your hand on the screen (5 second reading) Newest technology Cost effective

Why Our Scans Are Better! Our Iris Scans Scan up to 6 feet away! Recognition in 2 seconds! Sleek design!

Why Our Scans Are Better! ACCURACY! Multimodal Hand Scan – 95-98% Iris Scan – 98%

Potential Limitations Recently, a study indicated that there is an iris template aging effect (meaning employees/ travelers will have to get re-scanned every 5 years). Technology

Success Story Iris scanning – Beijing Olympics – World Cup in South Africa – Schiphol Amsterdam Airport

Can We Be Beat? Fingerprints – In 2002, Japanese researcher Tsutomu Matsumoto demonstrated several ways to create a fake fingerprint out of gelatin that could be worn by an identity thief. Iris Scans – Colored contact lenses can reduce the accuracy of iris scans, as can the use of drugs that dilate your pupils.

Can We Be Beat? Our system has 4 biometrics for your airport employees/passengers. – Iris scan – fingerprint – palm print – hand geometry We guarantee that our system will not be beat! (*see disclaimer)

Privacy As soon as an employee or passenger’s identity is confirmed, his or her information is instantaneously erased from the unit and becomes invisible on the network, ensuring immediate privacy.

What will this look Like in your Airport?
