Overall Objectives To consult with user communities identified and involved in the consortium on user requirements to identify and prioritise mission objectives To derive mission data requirements To set these requirements against the observation systems available or approved for the future To consider integrated observation systems in order to identify missing information products or products of insufficient quality To define a global observation system that would satisfy user requirements
Operational = A reliable service of specified information products that satisfy user needs. Atmospheric Chemistry = Trace gases + aerosols in the atmosphere, and derived products (UV Index, emissions, etc). Monitoring = Long-term continuity and consistency in information product quality Operational Atmospheric Chemistry Monitoring
Work Breakdown Structure
WP 1000: User communities and Applications The user community has been grouped into four application areas with a parallel and equivalent workpackage for each application: WP1100Protocol Monitoring WP1200Air Quality Monitoring WP1300Long-term Science Issues and Climate Monitoring WP1400Forecast capacity Coordinated at KNMI the user requirements are described based on the information which is provided by the relevant user organisations per application.
WP 2000: Data requirements and Assessment of missions and networks The work is splitted into three workpackages: WP2100: Derivation of level 2/3 data requirements from the user requirements for the four applications; coordinated by KNMI; based on the expertise of a large group of modellers WP2200: Assessment of existing and planned missions and other networks for the four applications; coordinated by RAL; based on the expertise of a large group of experts for the different observational techniques. WP 2300: Provide a vision of Integrated Observing Systems for the four applications and provide recommendations to the potential elements of these systems. Lead by U. Leicester.
WP 3000: Derivation of Mission Concepts (individual and combined missions) The work is splitted into four workpackages: WP3100: Derivation of Mission concepts for geostationary orbits: instrument performance and requirements; Lead by U. Bremen, with information provided by relevant experts WP3200: Derivation of mission concepts for Low-Earth orbits: instrument performance and requirements; lead by RAL, with information provided by relevant experts WP 3300: Operational Space Segment issues for derived mission concepts WP 3400: Operational Ground Segment issues for derived mission concepts
WP 4000: Overall Management The work is splitted into two workpackages: WP4100: Project Management and Documents. Progress reports, meetings, checks on agreed technical scope and depth, schedule and budgets; liaison with ESA. Lead by KNMI. WP4200: Conclusions and Recommendations. Compilation of the final project report, based on the individual workpackage reports, project discussions and the recommendations from the Final Review. Lead by KNMI.
