The Dutch first came to the cape of good hope in 1652 to establish a way station for their ships sailing between the east indies and home. the British controlled south Africa after Dutch were called “Boers” which means farmers.

British control South Africa British control increased the opportunities for Boer farmers to export sheep and wool, and hunters to change the ivory obtained from the interior.

The Boers resented British rule, even though British control develops economic benefits to the Boers
