Teaching terms There are 3 terms in a calendar year:  Spring term - January to May  Summer term - June to August  Autumn term - September to December

The Master of Science Program Library and Information Management

MSc[LIM] Graduates in any field Qualified information professionals looking to improve their knowledge base

MSc[LIM] – Admission Requirements & fees Hold a Bachelor’s Degree or qualifications and experience of equivalent standard May be required to sit for a qualifying examination Fees Composition fee (2005) HK$90,000 Payment: 25% deposit for first 2 modules and then 12 ½% per module

Aims Designed to prepare people to be ‘informed, reflective practitioners’ in the information age develop information leadership capacities that can be used in a wide variety of environments both profit and not-for-profit: traditional library settings, education settings, business settings, and as consultants

What makes the MSc[LIM] so special? First such award offered by a Hong Kong university. A program tailored to the unique needs of Hong Kong. The MSc[LIM] acts as both a first qualification and as an advanced qualification depending on entry knowledge.

Mode of study The programme  extends over a maximum of four years of part-time study.  has a flexible modular structure allowing students to complete the degree according to their own pace.  is conducted in a face-to-face mode, supplemented by flexible delivery (ILN).

Course structure: Students complete Eight modules Coursework option: 3 core modules 5 elective modules Each module consists of 24 contact hours or equivalent. The MSc[LIM] involves a minimum of 300 hours of prescribed work. Dissertation option: 3 core modules 2 electives and 3 dissertation modules Or

Course structure: Choosing coursework or dissertation Those who have no background in LIM are encouraged to choose the coursework option. Those who already hold a LIM qualification are encouraged to consider the dissertation option.

Academic knowledge and professional skills Prepares you to be a leader within schools and school libraries Three years part-time study

Education Bachelor of Education non-graduates in-service teachers wishing to upgrade knowledge to a graduate level

Requirements Prerequisite professional qualification for teaching –awarded on the basis of full-time post- secondary study of not less than two years, or equivalent qualification Equals advanced standing of 120 credits towards a total of 240 to graduate
