Due Week 3 Read pages What is the role of the House of Lords? What is the role of the House of Commons? What are the major British political parties. Whose interests do they represent? I will collect these, but a mark will not be recorded.

Due Week 4 Read pages What are the major political parties in America, and how do their policies differ? Briefly describe the three branches of Federal government. How are the House of Representatives and the Senate elected? Answers will be collected and marked.

Due Read pages Which groups of people settled in Britain during its early history, and at approximately what time? Has the old Celtic language died? How did feudalism begin in Britain? Answers will not be collected.

Question 2 (due week 15) How did President Roosevelt try to solve the economic problems of the Great Depression? Sentences from the book: His first move was to ask Congress to pass the Emergency Banking Act. Another move was to enlarge employment and increase consumption. The farmers ’ problem was dealt with by raising the price of farm products. Of course every country wants more employment and more economic activity! But how did Roosevelt achieve it?
