Fingerprints Whorls and all By Jonti Ridley

So, What are fingerprints and fingerprinting? Well just look at the tips of your fingers! We all have them. They’re those little swirly patterns on your fingers. Luckily they come in handy when it comes to Solving crimes. Every person have different prints. In fact no two people (Not even identical twins) have the same print! Finger printing is the name of the art of collecting finger prints. The scientific name is actually dactylography (dac-tyl-ogrph-y).They use fingerprinting to trace suspect to that per crime.

So, How is it done? See back in the old days, before computers were used, investigators had the tiring task of matching the prints next to hundreds of other prints on card. It took forever! By the time they had matched it sometimes the criminal had gotten away. Now day they use computers. The system that match fingerprints is called, funny enough fingerprinting machine. It still takes a while to match but not as long.

How is matched?
