 The civil war started on April 12,  It started because of slavery.  Deadliest war in America.  Stated at Fort Sumter

Union States: Oregon, California, Minnesota, Iowa, Kansas, Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine Confederate States: Texas, Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Tennessee, Alabama, Georgia, Florida, South Carolina, North Carolina, Virginia Border States: Missouri, Kentucky, Maryland, Delaware, West Virginia

France & Great Britain  Neither of them took sides.  Thought that the confederacy wasn't a nation.  They still supplied them with weapons.
